![]() ![]() I have been requested by a friend to read the Torah when his son
becomes a Bar Mitzvah. Is this considered too celebratory during my year
of mourning? The book I have been referring to on death and mourning is
not clear on this issue. Your interpretation and feedback is important
to me. Thank you, Jay
Dear Jay,
Thanks for the question. I see no reason why you would not be able to read Torah
during this year of mourning for you, especially since you are past the shloshim
30-day mark which has the strictest rules. So, my answer is go ahead and accept
the honor of reading Torah.
All the best. Shanah tovah and a great year to everyone.
Rabbi Ron
